African Mango Weight Loss

The African Mango weight loss diet is one of the latest to catch the eye of those that wish to shed a few pounds. While there are many different types of diets involving specific foods, such as the grapefruit diet or the cabbage soup diet, this one has substantial scientific data that proves its value as a diet aid and doesn't require you to eat just one type of food, but works as a supplement to help weight loss.

While the common name for the fruit is African Mango, its scientific name and the one you'll find on weight loss supplements is Irvingia gabonensis. Researchers in the Laboratory of Nutrition and Nutritional Biochemistry from the University of Yaoundé, Cameroon, did several studies involving weight loss and the use of Irvingia gabonensis. They published the results of each in the journal "Lipids in Health and Disease."  In all cases, whether the professors combined it with Cissus quadrangularis or given alone, the African mango boosted the weight loss in those that took it in capsule form daily.

In one experiment, the professors Oben, Ngondi, Momo, Agbor and Sobgui gave half the group of test subjects a placebo containing oat bran while the other half received a supplement made from the seeds of the African mango. The group containing 40 obese subjects between the ages of 19 and 55 received three pills a half hour before each meal for 4 weeks.  Both groups ate the same diet, however, the group with the supplement made from African mango seeds showed two and a half times more weight loss in the first two weeks and continued that pattern to the end of the study.

Not only did the group show increased weight loss, it also showed a significant reduction of waist and hip circumference. When checking blood pressure, the group on the African mango supplement showed a significant reduction in blood pressure. The group also showed improved blood cholesterol readings. The subjects taking the placebo did not have the same changes.

The same group of professors did a 10-week study with one group receiving a placebo and the other the African mango seed extract, but this time, only two times per day. After ten weeks, the group taking the Irvingia gabonensis, African mango seed supplement, had an average significant weight loss of 28 pounds compared to no notable change from the placebo group.

Because the scientists conducting these experiments feel strongly that obesity and the diseases it causes such as diabetes and heart disease, is a major world problem that needs solving, they went even further and completed other studies. These studies combined Irvingia gabonensis (African mango) and Cissus quadrangularis (Veldt grape, commonly used in Indian cuisine).

The scientists divided the 72 overweight subjects into three groups. They gave one group a placebo. The second group received pills containing Cissus quadrangularis and the third group received pills containing both Cissus quadrangularis and Irvingia gabonensis. By the fourth week, the scientists saw significant drops in body fat, cholesterol, waistline circumference and weight in the group taking Veldt grape supplements.

The group that took the placebo only experienced a 2.1 percent weight loss. Those taking just the Cissus quadrangularis had a weight loss more than four times that, 8.8 percent. However, when the scientists measured the weight loss for the group taking the combination of Cissus quadrangularis and African mango, they found the percentage of weight loss increased for the ten-week period to 11.9 percent of body weight.

From all indications, the inclusion of African mango in the diet shows promise as an aid to weight loss. While there were some side effects such as increased gas, insomnia and headaches, they were minimal compared to the significant decrease in weight and cholesterol levels when taking the supplement, making African mango weight loss the next miracle in the fight against obesity.
